Biography:
David is the Theme Leader for e-Health and a Principal Research Scientist at the CSIRO Australian e-Health Research Centre. The e-Health theme aims to create new ICT-based technologies that can securely and seamlessly acquire, manipulate, interpret and present data relevant to healthcare professionals, from a variety of sources. Research projects in this theme are in the areas of biomedical imaging, remote monitoring, health data integration and clinical terminologies.
David completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland, and a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the Australian National University. After developing an interest in informatics, David worked at the Bioinformatics Unit, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel and then the European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge. In mid 1998, David joined LION Bioscience Ltd in Cambridge, to lead the development of the genomic search engine, SRS. SRS is the leading data and analysis integration tool used in genomics, used by over 100 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, such as Glaxo Smith-Kline and Affymetrix, and 200 academic institutes world wide, including the European Bioinformatics Institute.
In late 2004, David returned to Australia to lead the research and development of the HDI health data integration software at the E-Health Research Centre and has since developed research programs in many areas of e-Health, including clinical terminologies, health data integration, summarisation and visualisation and analysis of longitudinal health data and the analysis of physiological signals.
