Dr John Hooper

Biography:
Dr Hooper has been the recepient of several fellowships, including the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation John Williams Cancer Travelling Fellowship, and the NHMRC R Douglas Wright Fellowship. He was a finalist in the 1990 AMP Biomedical Research Awards, and has won a series of scholarships. Dr Hooper’s research group at QUT aims to understand how molecular interactions at the cell surface contribute to cancer progression. They have a particular focus on understanding how secreted serine proteases (eg kallikreins) and cell surface members of this enzyme family (e.g. hepsin, TMPRSS2 and matriptase) relay signals to cells through cleavage of cell surface receptors. Dr Hooper's group employs a range of molecular, biochemical, cell biology and animal model based approaches to interrogate the actions of these molecules in prostate and other cancers.
