Biography:
Dr Symons is currently undertaking a urological research fellowship at the Garvan Institute, in conjunction with a Master of Surgery at Sydney University. Prior to this he had several years of clinical training with RACS as a General Surgery registrar, and will resume clinical training in Urology in 2011.
The current focus of the work at the St Vincent's Prostate Cancer Centre & Garvan Institute is clinical research. Their major project, which should begin to come to fruition this year, is a large comparison of quality of life outcomes for the different contemporary treatment modalities for prostate cancer. Other projects include an assessment of surgical techniques to augment post-prostatectomy continence rates and a correlation of prostate cancer biomarkers with clinicopathological outcomes.
