Biography:

Martin Berry was appointed as the first Director of the Liverpool Hospital Cancer Therapy Centre and Director of Radiation Oncology in 1994.

As the Area Director of the South Western Sydney (SWS) Cancer Service from 1999-2004 he implemented many initiatives to develop cancer services such as site specific tumour programs across the Area and the first Cancer Care Coordination Service in NSW.  The service development achievements of Martin and the SWS Cancer Service were acknowledged by the Premier, Health Ministers and Chief Cancer Officer when the first NSW Cancer Plan was launched at Liverpool Cancer Therapy Centre in 2004.

A/Professor Berry has a long standing commitment to radiation oncology training and education. He was instrumental in establishing a cooperative radiation oncology training program in NSW and pioneered the first Australian and New Zealand radiation oncology workshops for pre-fellowship trainees. He established multidisciplinary national workshops for trainees in paediatric and urological oncology. A/Professor Martin is currently the Chief Censor for the Faculty of Radiation Oncology, and is responsible for guiding the education reform agenda with the Curriculum Development Project in collaboration with the University of NSW, and revision of the Faculty’s examination and accreditation processes. The new curriculum for radiation oncology specialist training was implemented in 2009. In 2006 Martin was elected deputy chair of the Urological Oncology section of the NSW Oncology Group and has overseen the development of a state-wide plan for urological oncology, which includes a multidisciplinary education program for specialists and trainees and a national education strategy for prostate cancer support groups in collaboration with the Australian Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Martin holds a conjoint appointment with the UNSW South Western Sydney Clinical School as Associate Professor. In July 2010, he was appointed as the Director of Radiation Oncology for Genesis Cancer Care at Macquarie University Hospital.  He is also Associate Professor  in Radiation Oncology with the Macquarie University Australian School of Advanced Medicine. His principal clinical interest is in urological oncology.
